Selected Science Fiction Short Stories from “Yesterday, Tomorrow Was Already Different” Are Being Adapted for Film

I am currently preparing film adaptations of selected science fiction short stories from my series “Yesterday, Tomorrow Was Already Different”. These literary stories are intended to become cinematic visions: atmospheric, visually powerful, emotional and thought-provoking. The short stories in this series explore artificial intelligence, alien civilisations, consciousness, responsibility, machines, extraterrestrial life and the question of what still defines humanity in a technologically transformed world. Some of these stories are now taking the next step: from the written word to the moving image.

Casting Has Begun

Casting has begun for the first film adaptations. The plan is to create an exciting blend of real actors and avatars. Humans and avatars are intended to appear side by side, bringing the stories to life in a new and visually distinctive way. This combination is what makes the project particularly compelling: traditional acting meets digital film technology, and science fiction storytelling meets modern production possibilities. The boundaries between reality, virtuality and imagination are deliberately allowed to blur – precisely where science fiction is at its strongest.

Science Fiction as a Cinematic World

The planned short films are not intended to be simple illustrations of the texts. They are meant to open up their own cinematic spaces, shaped by light, music, sound, dialogue, atmosphere and visual concepts that strengthen the core of each story. This is not only about futuristic images, spaceships or technical effects. At the centre are characters, choices and conflicts. What happens when artificial intelligence understands more than its creator? What remains of humanity when machines learn to mirror us? And what does encounter truly mean when the alien may be closer than we believe?

Humans and Avatars

The upcoming productions are planned with both human performers and avatars or digital characters. This combination creates new possibilities for independent science fiction film: characters can be created that would be difficult, or extremely costly, to realise through conventional methods alone. The first film adaptations will probably be created with avatars at first – also as a creative exercise, allowing me to develop a stronger sense of timing, dramatic rhythm, visual language and the interaction between the characters within the stories. Avatars, synthetic voices, digital sets and visual effects are not intended to replace creativity, but to expand the language of film. The story remains decisive. Technology is a tool – vision, atmosphere and emotion remain at the centre.

Updates on Filming and Production

On this website, I will regularly report on the further development of the project: casting, preparation, visual tests, filming, music, editing, effects and the creation of the individual short films. The film adaptations of selected stories from “Yesterday, Tomorrow Was Already Different” are part of a wider science fiction world that brings together literature, film, music, digital characters and questions about the future.

Anyone who loves science fiction, artificial intelligence, film production, avatars, digital actors, visions of the future and independent genre cinema will find regular insights here into the making of these projects.
