Topics & Story Categories

The sci-fi shorts can be broadly categorised into thematic areas. Technically, there is no filter function here – but you can mentally sort the stories by theme and thus specifically choose your favourite setting. Possible thematic clusters:In the story cards below, you will find a brief thematic classification for each short story, so that you can more quickly find the themes that interest you most.

  • AI & Algorithms: Artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, surveillance, the power of data.
  • Aliens & First Contact: Encounters with the unknown, diplomacy, misunderstandings, culture shocks.
  • Politics & Society: Shifts in power, populism, digital dictatorships, resistance.
  • Consciousness & Identity: Uploads, copies, split personalities, simulations of reality.
  • Space travel & colonies: outposts, generation ships, terraforming, borderline experiences.

A Selection of Science Fiction Short Stories

New and upcoming stories

The short-story universe of Redhead Future Fiction is constantly expanding. Some stories are already available in revised versions, whilst others are still at the concept or script stage. Where a final synopsis is not yet available, the neutral placeholder ‘Synopsis to follow’ is deliberately used. This allows us to remain transparent whilst work continues in the background on the text, editing (partly AI-assisted) and cinematic structure. New short stories are added here on an ongoing basis – including details of how they tie in with novels such as Codename: Darwin or Paradise 4.0.
Further study through books
In principle, you can read the SF shorts in any order. However, to ensure the clearest possible introduction to the Redhead Future Fiction universe, we recommend a few specific routes: If you’d like to understand the broader context along the way, it’s worth taking a look at the Books & Excerpts and About the Author pages, which contain background information on the universe.
  • Getting started with Codename: Darwin: Start with the prologue short story for Codename: Darwin and then move on to the book page with the extract. This way, you’ll first experience a condensed scene, followed by the broader narrative arc.
  • Paradise 4.0 – Networked Worlds: Read the short story ‘Incident in the Network’ as soon as the final version is online, and then delve deeper into the fictional world of Paradise 4.0.
  • Focus on AI & Control: If you’re primarily looking for stories centred on surveillance, algorithms and decision-making machines, ‘AI Loop’ is a good place to start.
  • Focus on Aliens & First Contact: For readers fascinated by the unknown, ‘Message from the Deep Ages’ will be the perfect short story once it’s been published.
