A Note on the Earlier Version
“Codename: Darwin” is neither a sequel nor simply a retitled reissue. The novel is based on my thriller “Darwin: Zeit zu töten” (“Darwin: Time to Kill”- Left Cover), first published around twenty years ago. For this new edition, however, the story has been extensively revised and substantially rewritten.
Whereas the original version focused on illegal arms dealing, the central conflict is now driven by the artificial intelligence GOLIATH. This has significantly changed the novel’s plot, threat scenario and thematic direction. What was once a conventional thriller has become a contemporary AI thriller (Cover on the right side) about power, manipulation and the question of what can still be regarded as truth in an artificially altered reality. Even readers who are already familiar with “Darwin: Zeit zu töten” will therefore encounter a markedly different and newly told story in “Codename: Darwin”. Any second-hand copies of the earlier title still available contain the original version of the novel.
