Permission granted for Mullin Classic Car Museum in Oxfordshire

In an exciting development for classic car enthusiasts, final planning permission has been granted for the proposed Mullin Classic Car Museum in Oxfordshire. As reported a few months ago, the late millionaire Peter Mullin planned to build an impressive museum at Enstone Airfield, near Chipping Norton. The former RAF site, which is currently used for light aircraft operations and as an industrial estate and quarry, has also hosted rallies and track day experiences. The road to approval, however, was not without its challenges. Local residents raised concerns about noise and pollution, and disparagingly referred to the proposal as a "billionaire's club. In total, more than 70 objections were received by West Oxfordshire Council, focusing mainly on noise pollution and traffic congestion. Despite these objections, full planning permission has now been granted following the resolution of outstanding 'reserved matters'.
What will the development include?
Mr. Mullin's original application proposed a magnificent stone and bronze-clad central building called "The Crescent" that would house a 200-car museum, a members' club with hotel-style accommodations, function rooms, 16 apartments and 20 residences. However, in the revised version of the project, some changes have been made to address the concerns of local residents. The project now includes
- 28 vacation apartments
- A workshop building
- A Show Lane building
- The originally planned Crescent building was scaled down and based on the Royal Crescent in Bath to minimize noise and light pollution.
A paradise for classic car lovers
The approval of this project joins a growing number of themed destinations for car enthusiasts. These include The Motorist near Leeds and the Caffeine & Machine project, now in its third location. There are also established venues such as the British Motor Museum, the National Motor Museum, The Great British Car Journey and Bicester Heritage, all of which offer a wide range of live entertainment for classic car enthusiasts. The Mullin Classic Car Museum promises to be a world-class destination, comparable to the Mullin Automotive Museum in California, known for its extensive collection of early 20th century Bugattis. The opening of the Mullin Classic Car Museum in Oxfordshire is sure to be a highlight for the classic car community and an important contribution to the preservation of automotive heritage. We look forward to visiting this new hotspot for historic vehicles soon. See also: NEW MUSEUM
